The Sacraments

The Sacraments mark important milestones in our lives as Christians.  They are divided into three categories: Initiation (Baptism, Holy Eucharist, and Confirmation), Service (Marriage and Holy Orders), and Healing (Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick).  Please read further to learn more about sacramental life at the Monastery.

Sacrament of Baptism
Baptism is the first Sacrament of Initiation into the Catholic faith.  Baptisms for infants and young children are performed during Mass or in private ceremonies.  Adult baptisms are guided by our RCIA team and normally take place during the Easter Vigil.  Please contact Fr. Murphy to discuss baptismal arrangements.

Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist
Children typically receive the Eucharist during the second grade.  Preparatory classes are taught by our religious education instructors, and periodic meetings between parents, students, and instructors are held throughout the year.  Please contact Sharon H. Winchester for more information.

Sacrament of Confirmation
Confirmation occurs every two years in our parish.  Classroom instruction is required along with periodic meetings between parents, students, and their sponsors.  Confirmands typically begin in regular Sunday school classes before entering special courses during the year of the Confirmation.  They are also required to attend at least one retreat and perform various service requirements to be considered for Confirmation.  For more information please contact Sharon H. Winchester.

Sacrament of Marriage
Marriage arrangements must be made at least six months in advance with Fr. Murphy.  Couples must also consult with the director of music regarding music arrangements.  All couples are expected to complete a marriage preparation course.  For general questions or to obtain a wedding booklet please contact the rectory at (410) 566 - 0877.

Sacrament of Holy Orders
The church welcomes all holy men and women who are called to serve God's people.  If you are considering a life in church ministry, please feel free to speak with our clergy or pastoral staff at any time.  For additional information on church vocations please visit the Archdiocesan website.

Sacrament of Reconciliation
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is offered every Saturday from 3:00 - 3:45 p.m. in church or privately by appointment.  The parish also periodically offers a Reconciliation service during Lent.  Children preparing for Reconciliation attend preparatory classes and participate in group meetings with their parents or guardians.

Sacrament of the Sick
The Sacrament of the Sick is celebrated on the last Saturday of the month following the 4:00 p.m. Mass.  Those who are ill or anticipating surgery may contact Fr. Murphy to receive this Sacrament at home.

Christian Burial and Funerals
Please accept our condolences on the loss of your loved one.  We offer our services and support during this difficult time.  Due to the specific nature of Catholic funeral rites, please consult with Fr. Murphy before making any arrangements regarding scripture readings, music, or other liturgical matters.
