About PLASE

Our Mission

Project PLASE, Inc. (People Lacking Ample Shelter and Employment) addresses homelessness by providing convalescent housing, permanent housing and supportive services to homeless adults. We serve the most marginalized and underserved by treating the whole person and empowering each individual to function at the highest possible level.

Our Vision

To eliminate homelessness.

Housing & Hope for Baltimore’s most vulnerable homeless citizens.

Our Services

PLASE accepts persons through the referrals of many service providers. We treat the whole person and empower each individual to meet their goals and grow to full capacity.

·       Convalescent Housing provides adult men and women with a safe place to achieve stability, address the underlying problems contributing to their homelessness, and access permanent housing

·       Supportive Services include 24-hour on-site supervision, Addictions Treatment and Assessment, Nursing Services, Counseling, Case Management, Socialization Activities, Life Skills and Support Groups, and Mental Health Services

·       Permanent Housing allows persons to rejoin the community as productive members through support from dedicated counselors to assure continued growth, family reunification, and access to education, employment, and medical services.

Our Project

PLASE’s project, entitled Beacon House Square, includes the purchase and renovation of the St. Joseph’s Monastery School Building, located at 3601 Old Frederick Road. Renovating this site would consolidate our comprehensive services and will be more efficient both economically and programmatically.

PLASE’s smaller buildings are greatly inadequate for the growing need in Baltimore, including the Irvington and St. Joseph’s area. Beacon House Square expands both the Convalescent and Permanent Housing availability in the community. This allows PLASE’s continuum of housing to be under one roof, creating 60 Convalescent Housing Units and 30 Permanent Housing apartments.

This Works

We have successfully helped thousands of homeless individuals because of our combination of housing and intensive supportive services.

·       96% of our clients in permanent housing stay in permanent housing

·       Last year, we helped 184 of our convalescent clients move on to safe and stable housing

·       In the last year, our programs housed 33 veterans

·       90% of our clients are successfully connected with necessary medical care, mental health services, addiction recovery programs, education, and vocational programs as is appropriate

“If it wasn’t for PLASE, I don’t know where I would be now.”

                 --Annette (former client)
