About Our Church

St. Joseph's Monastery Parish is a Passionist Community.  The Passionists are a global order of Roman Catholic priests, brothers, nuns, sisters, and laity who proclaim God's love for the world revealed through the Passion of Jesus Christ.  Founded by St. Paul of the Cross in 1741, the Passionists are called to serve the materially poor, the infirm, the oppressed, and the spiritually neglected.  Today Passionist missionaries are present in over sixty countries worldwide.

Along with preaching the devotions of the parish, the Passionists have always attended to the spiritual and physical needs of the community.  Some of the earliest missions included serving as chaplains to the Visitation Nuns in Catonsville, Mount St. Joseph's College, St. Mary's Industrial School (where they ministered to Babe Ruth), as well as St. Agnes and Bon Secours hospitals.  These early missions continue to inspire the generosity of our parishioners as they reach out to a community in need.  There is a strong desire to build models of ministry for the unchurched and materially poor.  Special goals of the parish are excellent liturgy and outreach to the neighborhood.
